CHILDREN'S EYECARE

EYE HEALTH FOR CHILDREN

Young people’s eyes require special care to protect their health and development. For children, difficulties in education are often caused by undiagnosed eye problems.

This means regular testing is vitally important to catch any vision loss or eye conditions early on. The technology available to manage difficulties with vision and eye health is now very advanced, meaning eye problems can be dealt with effectively and quickly once identified.

This is why we encourage our patients to have their child's eye’s examined regularly and to look out for signs of vision loss.

CHILDREN'S EYE TESTS

Young children should have their eyes tested regularly as this allows us to catch any potential problems and treat them as soon as possible. We offer eye examinations for children of all ages, including pre-reading age.

With the latest clinical testing available, we can ensure that we will catch any problems and help prevent the many difficulties caused by undiagnosed vision loss.

Any child under 16 (or aged 16, 17 or 18 in full-time education) qualifies for a free eye exam through the NHS.

Managing your child's spectacle prescription is essential for ensuring their vision remains clear and their eyes stay healthy. Regular eye tests, typically every one to two years or as advised by your optician, help keep their prescription up to date. If you notice signs of strain, such as squinting, headaches, or difficulty focusing, it may be time for a check-up.

Encourage your child to wear their glasses as prescribed, especially if they are needed for schoolwork or screen time. Choosing comfortable, well-fitted frames can make a big difference in how often they wear them. Keeping glasses clean and in good condition also helps maintain clear vision. If their prescription changes frequently, your optician can guide you on the best options to manage their eye health effectively.
